Attorney: Kids’ photos were legal

A 43-year-old Breaux Bridge man did not break the law by taking pictures of bikini-clad girls at Blue Bayou Water Park in Baton Rouge last year, his attorney said Monday after a court hearing.
Duane Champagne, who was a physical education teacher at a Catholic elementary school in Lafayette at the time of his arrest in June 2007, waived his right to a jury trial and said he wants to be tried by state District Judge Bonnie Jackson. Read more …

LAFAYETTE — Additional details in a felony case against a Lafayette lawyer accused of raping a former employee emerged Monday during a hearing for motions.
Scott Hawkins, of Lafayette firm Hawkins & Villemerette, was set to stand trial Monday for the alleged rape of a former receptionist in March 2007. Read more …
Suspects Indicted for Atchafalaya Basin Headless Body Murder

A Grand Jury has indicted four of the men arrested in connection to the murder of the headless body found in the Atchafalaya Basin on charges of first degree murder.

Dog-Fighting Ring Busted in Broussard UPDATE

56 animals were put to sleep over the weekend after last week's raid on an alleged dog-fighting ring in Broussard.
Animal rights officials say the dogs were likely worth more than a quarter-of-a-million dollars.
Monday, attorneys for the men arrested in the case claim that animal control officials acted prematurely by having the dogs euthanized before the defendants were proven guilty. Read more …

LAFAYETTE - A 35-year-old Lafayette lawyer facing a simple rape charge pleaded guilty Tuesday to the lesser charge of second-degree battery, also a felony.

Prosecutors intend to introduce computer images of young girls during the video voyeurism trial of a Breaux Bridge man accused of taking camera and cell phone pictures of bikini-clad girls at Blue Bayou Water Park in Baton Rouge.
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputies arrested Duane Champagne in June 2007 after the mother of one of the girls he photographed complained to water park management. Read more ...
