Our law firm is led by Louisiana criminal defense lawyer J. Kevin Stockstill. For more than 14 years, Mr. Stockstill has focused his legal practice almost exclusively on criminal defense of clients in Lafayette, Baton Rouge and throughout southern and central Louisiana.

A local attorney who was raised and educated in Louisiana, Mr. Stockstill has significant experience defending clients brought up on charges involving violent crimes, including homicide. Depending on the facts of your particular situation, your case may lend itself better to a plea bargain or to a jury trial — we will analyze your circumstances together and craft the best possible defense on your behalf.

Second Degree Felony Battery — Charge Reduced: Our client was a successful music artist from Chicago who was arrested and formally charged with a second degree felony battery. While in town for a concert, our client went to a local health club and got into a fight during a basketball game. Our client and some of his bodyguards were charged. The members of the health club were seriously injured. Our law firm was a member of the defense team. After thorough investigation and trial preparation, the prosecution reduced the charge from felony battery to simple battery — a misdemeanor. A felony conviction would have seriously impacted our client's career and recording contract.

Second Degree Felony Battery — Dismissal: Our client was the lead singer for a well-known rap band, which was in the Lafayette area performing a concert. The State of Louisiana brought formal charges accusing our client of a felony second-degree battery. The prosecution contended that during the concert, a young woman climbed up on stage and our client grabbed her and threw her off the stage, whereupon she fell face first onto the concrete floor and sustained serious injuries. After an investigation, the defense learned that someone at the concert had secretly brought in a tape recorder and had taped the entire concert. After obtaining the video tape and viewing it, it became obvious that someone other than our client had thrown the young woman from the stage. After confronting the prosecution with this evidence, the prosecution dismissed the case against our client.
